Consulting services are available to groups and communities. Dr. Duran has been able to assist groups, agencies and communities to develop and implement plans where a larger prevention or intervention effort is required. For example if a community or group has a high incidence of addictions or a chronic illness such as diabetes, Dr. Duran has helped groups to assess and develop interventions. These services have been well received all over the U.S., Africa, Canada and other parts of the world. Consultation focuses on how soul wounding or historical trauma has impacted all cultures and we are dealing with the after effects of this trauma. Through a process of awareness and therapeutic ceremony we can begin to heal the soul.
Training for professionals has also been one of Dr. Duran's strengths over the past two decades. He travels extensively to provide clinical training to staff members in various health care settings and these trainings may be used as part of professional continuing education. These training deal with serious case presentations and are dealt with from an approach that is different from the usual medical model. Most participants have found this type of approach refreshing and the workshops become a setting for healing the healers.
At 7th Direction we develop an individualized treatment plan to fit your needs. There are several approaches that can be used to address your situation:
Problem Focused Short Term Therapy--These therapies usually entail behavioral and cognitive strategies. The therapy will focus on specific problem areas and behavioral interventions will be suggested. Evaluation will occur on a week to week basis in order to modify the process in order to ensure behavioral goals.
Depth Based Longer Term Therapy--Therapy of this nature will explore deeper historical issues that the client may have as a source of the presenting problems. At times there are events in one's life that cause difficulties with present life situations. In order to gain access to these deeper issues therapy will also integrate dreams, fantasies, and other psychological material into the therapeutic process. Therapy may take longer and clients find that the insights gained from such an approach may offer more meaning to life. At times there will be life situations such as physical illness and other problems that may not be completely gone through therapy. These life problems can bring a tremendous amount of spiritual insight to those who seek this type of treatment.
Play Therapy--This type of treatment involves non-verbal creation of worlds that are interpreted as part of the therapeutic process. Children benefit greatly from this form of therapy because children of certain ages are not able to verbally disclose what is bothering them. Families can participate in play therapy in order to get insight into family issues and dynamics.
A method of play therapy we use is sand-tray therapy. This is an open ended approach where the client (adult, child, or family) can create a world in a sand-tray from a wide assortment of figures. The world created can then be interpreted as part of the therapeutic process. This form of therapy can access deep issues while at the same time helping the client resolve the issues.
Group Therapy/Talking Circles
Some people prefer to work in groups because in this way they can feel that there are others who are dealing with similar issues. This sense of belonging can bring about a healing group cohesion that enables clients to bring their healing experience into their life-world. The following groups are available:
