 7th Direction therapy is based on an ancient tribal teaching. As we know, there are 6 cardinal points in our immediate universe. When we are centered within this cosmology, the elders teach, that we are at the 7th direction and at the center of our psychological world.

In order to achieve psychological and spiritual centering we must put forth effort through awareness and understanding that gives us insight. At times when our lives are out of harmony with our center we can experience symptoms including anxiety, depression, addictions, and family disruptions among many other problems that cause life disruptions.

Therapy can help in bringing us back to our center either through short term problem focused therapy or longer in depth therapies (these therapies discussed in services section).

The task is simple: Raise awareness so that we can become centered in our emotional and physical life world.

Even though the task is simple it is not easy and that's why we need help at times during our life's journey. Counseling and therapy can offer us understanding in the midst of difficulty and crisis.

Difficulties are part of being alive. Our society leads us to believe that pain of any type is to be gotten rid of. This is not always possible. It becomes necessary at times to gain understanding of what the emotional or physical pain is trying to teach us. Many of our clients have attested that understanding their lives and the different problems of life are what makes their lives including problems which at times are painful, makes their lives more meaningful. Simply trying to get rid of painful issues without understanding can leave us empty and without meaning. At 7th Direction we will facilitate a process that will make your life more meaningful.

This book deals with clinical case studies in the  areas of addiction, abuse, and other problems facing us in the modern world. A complete change in metaphor is offered in which these diagnoses are understood from the root metaphor of soul.

Dr. Duran has published several papers/booklets dealing with clinical and community issues. His innovative approaches deal with addictions/veternan's issues, violence/chronic illness, liberation psychology and historical  trauma.
